Frequently asked
questions.
Start with the details that make planning driver’s ed easier.
Why choose Trident’s online course?+
Trident’s course is made for Wisconsin students, with recorded live-action lessons, short knowledge checks, and practical safety instruction. There are no long reading assignments or reports, and students can retry questions as needed.
How old does my teen need to be to enroll?+
Students can enroll at age 14 years and 6 months. A parent and student both need to sign the Enrollment Agreement before course access begins.
When can we start and how long does it take?+
Students can start the same day they enroll. Wisconsin limits online course work to two hours each day, so the course can be completed in as little as three weeks. Students have 180 days to finish.
What happens after the online course is complete?+
Trident records the Classroom Completion Certificate with the DMV. The student receives an email from noreply@dot.wi.gov and then takes that certificate to a local driving school for the paperwork needed to take the permit test.
Is there a pass guarantee?+
If a student completes the course and does not pass the final exam, they may apply for a 100% classroom-tuition refund. Grant coupons can be cancelled, but cannot be refunded as cash or credit.
Are discounts or financial help available?+
Trident offers a Friends & Family code, plus $20 discounts for active-duty military and first responders. Eligible teens may also apply for the Wisconsin Driver Education Grant Program through WisDOT before enrolling.
